In my 25 years of personal training, I have found that inevitably, people's failure in "meal planning" is that they leave out the planning part!   While I have always said that 80% of weight loss is in your diet...90 of your diet is in your meal PLANNING.  Most people can name 20 foods that are good for them, and when faced with a weight loss plan they have good intentions.  But when it comes down to meal planning time, they fail to plan and end up having to make "quick" decisions...and typically quick decisions are poor decisions (fast food, vending machines, etc)!

Here are a few tips to keep you from failing on your meal planning:

1. Make a grocery list.  Most poor meal planning comes at the grocery store.  Make a list (on a full stomach!) and stick to it at the store!

2. Prepare your meals on Sunday (or the day before your week starts).  Put your foods together in tupperware dishes or zip-lock baggies so that when you get up in the morning you don't have to think about it - just grab it and go!

3. Keep it simple.  Don't try to "make-up" variety in your meal planning...eat what is good for you, but just as important - eat what you like to eat.

4. Don't tempt yourself.  Take a different path to work to avoid fast food places.  Don't bring cash into work to avoid vending machine temptations.  Exchange your co-workers lunch out to eat with a 20 minute walk at lunch time.

Get a step ahead with your meal planning!
