One of the most common myths in the fitness training industry is "the more ab exercises I do, the better my abs will look".  While this is very far from the truth, I can understand why people get this in their head.  Every ab training video and ab gizmo has beautiful models posing as "after" shots to their respective product!!  Every fitness magazine is covered with chiseled abs claiming to come from their "special" ab routine...no wonder America is getting fatter!!  People are getting the wrong message delivered and spending hours doing ab routines, when they should be concentrating on meal planning and modifying their exercise plan to meet their goals!

Do you want to know how to get abs?   In my 25 years of personal training I have found you need to center your fitness training around weights and cardio, and your meal planning around protein and low fat foods...THAT will give you abs!  Your cardio fitness training should be 3-4 times per week for about 30-40 minutes, and make sure you do it after you do the weights!  When you do your weight training, instead of doing abs (which typically burns less than 50 calories), do a full body routine and have it centered around legs!  When you do legs, because they are the largest muscle group in the body, you burn the most calories!  Don't forget the rest of the body, just center it around legs.  Then you can finish with a few abs if you like.

Finally, for optimum nutrition, and pure weight loss (and nice abs!), you need to cut the fat!  You get fat by eating fat and/or eating too many calories.  Just remember, 80% of reducing your body fat comes down to what you put in your mouth.  Get a handle on this, and you will get the upper hand on your "love handles"!
