"WASHINGTON, D.C. –  The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA) today launched Exercise is Medicine™, a new program designed to encourage America’s patients to incorporate physical activity and exercise into their daily routine. Exercise is Medicine™ calls on doctors to prescribe exercise to their patients."

AMEN!

I can't believe it took this long to get fitness training at the forefront of the medical community!  Doctors have advocated exercise plans for years, but most have been too lazy (or greedy) to take the time to give their patients direction.  You know, time is money, and if they weren't getting paid for it, why take the time, right?

I am not here to rip on the medical community, because this is not the time nor place...rather, I have to tell you, I have been in the personal training business for many years, and I have never been of the philosophy - "Don't do it if you can't get paid".  You see, I believe that the more people you can reach out and touch, the more people you can help - the more you will receive in return.  You may not get paid.  In fact you may not ever get money back in return from those people, but what you will get is: self-satisfaction knowing you made a difference, incredible stories of pure weight loss success, and countless "thank you's" that are priceless!

So when I see news like this, it makes me proud to be in the fitness training industry, knowing that I worked hard for years, doing the pro-active thing to help people reach their goals.   Always hoping in the back of my mind that industries like the powerful medical community would eventually jump on board an implement exercise plans as "medicine" - this is a big step, and believe me, I will continue to press on and "educate" and make my difference in the industry.
